The DO'S and DON'TS

DON’T put loose sharps directly inside red medical waste bags.

DO put sharps in an FDA-approved, puncture-resistant, properly marked sharps box / disposal container.

DON’T overfill red medical waste bags or sharps containers. Do not push down on red medical waste bags with hands or feet.

DO close, tie (gooseneck tie for red bags) and seal red medical waste bags and sharps containers at 3/4 full.

DON’T place medical waste in areas where there is access to the public

DO place medical waste in a secure location, with no public access

DON'T use thin red medical waste bags

DO use heavy duty red medical waste bags (17 micron or above)
